The work originates from a direct dialogue with late nineteenth-century English Neoclassical painting, and in particular with the formal research of John William Godward.
The figure is constructed as a central and stable element, defined by controlled light that shapes the body without emphasizing it. The tambourine does not introduce narrative: it is a sign, a point of balance that interrupts the verticality of the pose and stabilizes the composition.
Marble and drapery enter into dialogue with the skin within a system of surfaces and counterweights. Every element is measured, calibrated, restrained. Nothing is spontaneous; everything is constructed.
In this contemporary reinterpretation, photography adopts the discipline of academic painting and moves through it with a present-day gaze.
Neoclassical Darkness investigates the boundary between visual memory and photographic autonomy, between citation and form.
